Job description

Our client is looking for a Farm Manager to join their dairy farm. The farm is on a 300ha irrigated Dairy platform, milking 1150 cows through a 60 bale rotary shed. As the Farm Manager, you will be an energetic, and self-motivated individual with strong people, cattle and pasture management skills, who is keen to get stuck in and get the job done. You must work well on your own but equally well amongst a team and will report to the Farm Owner and Consultant. Our client is seeking an experienced and motivated manager, to lead their existing team of 4. The ideal person must have a minimum of 5 years NZ dairy farming experience and have proof of eligibility to work in NZ. There will be a minimum of 50 hours per week running 6 on 2 off roster all year round. Requirements: • A bachelor’s degree in agriculture would be an advantage but is not a requirement. • 2-3 years management experience. • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct peers and work as a valuable team member. • Experienced in a large-scale livestock operation (minimum of 5 years of NZ dairy industry experience). • Well-developed people management skills. • Reporting and computer skills. • Demonstrated experience in the management and handling of livestock. • Pasture based farming experience. • Initiative to complete operational tasks that contribute to the team. • Ability to support and implement safe work procedures. • Sound experience with cow collar management. • Willingness to learn new systems of work. Responsibilities: • Ensure safe operations across the property through the implementation of our Safety Management System. • Manage and direct staff to achieve positive outcomes (including encouraging and training to develop their skills and abilities and planning and allocating work within the team). • Exhibit sound and accurate judgement to ensure the highest standards of animal health and welfare. • Report on farm plans and inventory. • Paddock inspection estimating quality and availability of pastures. • Implement stock rotations and contribute to plans for future feed budgets. • Feed management to support achievement of budgeted production targets. • Monitor and maintain water and fencing. • Maintain accurate stock, treatment, and feeding records. • Manage irrigation systems and recording information. • Attend monthly Consultant meetings with updated farm information available. • Operate and maintain plant and equipment. • Coordinate with farm owner for required fertiliser, hay/silage making activities. • Ensuring effective and efficient operation of milking process to required level of quality milk. • Ensure a condensed and efficient calving is achieved every season. • Ensure all animals in season are mated according to mating program. • Assist with winter grazing and youngstock. • Implement sustainable farming practices. • Adhere to company policies and safe work procedures. Single accommodation available on farm otherwise family accommodation available off farm, with local schools and Kindergartens being within walking distance. No pets allowed!
