Many changes occurred in the New Zealand employment and immigration spaces in 2022. The country's unemployment rate became the lowest since 1986 - 3.3% - and the Government announced an immigration rebalancing system, which affected thousands of New Zealand families and businesses.
After two years of borders closure due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, our country finally opened its doors to travelers - little by little, starting with vaccinated visitors from Australia in April, to fully welcoming the world back in August with no restrictions. Until that point, migrant workers wanting to work and live in New Zealand had very few opportunities to come to the country, as these were mostly based on border exceptions. With that, many industries started to suffer labour shortages, which later on would be mitigated by the Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV).
During the year, our recruitment, immigration and pastoral care teams at Trinity have been helping businesses and candidates navigate through all of these, plus many other changes in the industry. In 2023, we will keep doing our best to assist our clients with all the updates and changes yet to come. The Government already announced a few of them to take place on the first semester of the year and we are sure many others will happen affecting employment and immigration markets. We pride ourselves on being able to help minimize any challenges that come with these changes for so many businesses around the country.
